Code of Conduct

Code of Conduct at Portland Insight Meditation Center

PIMC strives to serve as a safe space for people of all racial and ethnic backgrounds, sexual orientations, gender identities, political affiliations, cultures and ages. To help ensure all Dharma practitioners find refuge in this space, we ask that you adhere to the following guidelines:

During silent meditation: Sit quietly and kindly silence your mobile devices. As much as possible, limit talking or making other noises unnecessarily. Please feel free to move as needed to make yourself comfortable; we just ask that you make your movements quietly and mindfully. There is space in the balcony for those who may have a cold or cough or need more space from others.

During social time in the PIMC living room: Practice wise speech, striving to speak from a place of kindness, truth and sensitivity to what could cause harm to others. If you would like to hug or make physical contact with another person, please ask for their permission first.

If at any time, another person makes you feel uncomfortable in any way, please communicate with a PIMC staff member, teacher, board member or other trusted community member. Helpful contacts are listed below:

We are so pleased you are here as part of this Sangha. May our collective practice and connection reduce the suffering of all beings in all places through all times.

In loving-kindness,
