The Precepts: Natural Laws that Lead to Happiness and Freedom

The Five Precepts provide cognitive and behavioral guidelines that allow us to live together in harmony. They are not commandments in that we are quite free to experiment and see what happens when we do not follow them. They are consciousness raising vehicles that help us to see the natural consequences that arise whenever we act based in greed, hatred and delusion. A life lived in accord with the precepts will result in a mind that tends toward concentration, ease and tranquility which is its own reward.
