In this day-long retreat, we will use meditation, Dharma talks, and some group interaction to assist you in healing whatever self-hatred persists in your life.
Self-hatred is a learned negative attitude toward oneself that can lead to a lifetime of self-defeating behavior including: addictions, eating disorders, loneliness, and unhappy relationships. Self-hatred is learned during the first few years of life. When the needs, pleasures and emotions of the infant/child are met with parental absence, scorn, preoccupation, or abuse, the overwhelmed child turns against themself. Natural needs for attention, love, and affection are experienced as bad, unwanted, and alien. This leads to many forms of acting out toward oneself, and a self-image that is destructive.
Fortunately, this personality process is not permanent or unchangeable. Meditation based in wisdom, compassion, and love can help to illuminate these old patterns and can result in a blossoming into more wholeness.
