There are a number of items I wanted to make sure you all knew about. Please humor me and read this whole email! :-)
ENGAGING THE DHARMA GOOGLE GROUP
This is now up and running and fully functional. If you’re getting this email, you SHOULD have automatically been added to the group and you SHOULD be able to easily access it here: https://groups.google.com/a/portlandinsight.org/forum/#!forum/engaging-the-dharma
Additionally, you SHOULD be getting an email whenever someone posts to the group. Please let Avi know if you’re having trouble accessing this page or getting email notifications of group postings: email@example.com. From this point on, I would like to move all our communications to the Google Group (no more emails!), so please make sure you’re able to access it.
Tia Knuth has started a thread for us all to introduce ourselves to each other, and also to share what environmental or social issues we’re most interested in, as well as any groups we’re currently engaged with. This will help us all find others of affinity. Please take a minute to go to the page and introduce yourself too, and help this to be an active and engaged group! Please post events you are aware of that pertain to this group, great articles, videos or podcasts — things to keep us inspired and motivated.
OUR FIRST ACTION TOGETHER: FEEDING THE HOMELESS
At our last meeting Sun. Dec. 2nd, we decided to begin by working together as a group to offer a meal to the homeless through Transitions Project. We’d like to see this happen before the end of the year. I’m currently looking for folks to head this up and take part in shopping for food, food prep, and serving. Details and the exact date are still to be worked out, but if this interests you, please let me know ASAP. This may become an on-going event in the future.
I’ve also put up a posting on Google Groups for a brown bag event through Living Earth for Friday Dec. 14th to make lunches and distribute them to the hungry. More details also found here if you’re interested in taking part: https://www.livingearthoregon.org/brown-bag-food/
NEXT MEETING: LISTENING FOR ACTIVISTS — SUNDAY JAN 13TH, 1:00-2:30 (after the potluck)
Doyle Banks will be presenting a mini-workshop on "Listening for Activists” which will be especially helpful for interacting with people who have different views, or who may speak with energized communication. We’ll learn how to hit the pause button when dealing with high emotional energy. It will also help us answer the questions: What is my intention? What are the outcomes I want? Doyle will be incorporating practice exercises and listening skills based on non-violent communication theory. Please join us!
OK that’s it for now — thanks if you’ve made it this far, and I look forward to seeing you all at our next meeting!
